It's no longer 'mail'...

It's application workflow managemement alert routing! ;-)

If you have an app that calls the UI to forward or send mail or the user uses the standard mail functionality, it's going to bring up the Notes mail client.

If you want to eliminate the mail UI, you'll need to use code to send mail using either formula language or LS. In this way, the UI is bypassed and everything happens in the background.

In our situation, when we moved from Notes for mail to Exchange/Outlook, all new users were created without a mail file so they can't use any of the standard mail UI methods and, over time, the users who had used Notes for mail just stopped trying to use the interface.

On a side note, I stil use Notes mail because it's easy to whip out an a message to groups (which are not duplicated in Exchange/Outlook) in the NAB and send doc/view/db links easily.
